DESCRIPTION
This 2 day lecture class covers recovery and restart considerations for a DB2 for z/OS data sharing group, including DB2 Version 8 and 9 enhancements.
AUDIENCE
This course is intended for DB2 DBAs and systems support personnel who are responsible for implementing recovery procedures for a DB2 for z/OS data sharing installation.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completing this course, students should be able to:
- Describe how DB2 recovery and restart processes are different in a data sharing environment versus a standalone DB2 environment
- Describe the architecture of DB2 data sharing, and the recovery and restart considerations associated with system components that enable data sharing on a parallel sysplex
- Describe how clustering facility structures are allocated and recovered
- Describe the DB2 group restart process
- Describe z/OS operating system and System z hardware components from a DB2 data sharing recovery/restart perspective
- Describe how disaster recovery processes should be updated to account for the presence of a DB2 data sharing system in the environment
TOPICS
- Database Recovery in the Data Sharing Environment
- Parallel Sysplex Availability Considerations
- Structure Allocation and Recovery Considerations and Restart
- Parallel Sysplex Recovery in the Data Sharing Environment
- Disaster Recovery Considerations for DB2 Data Sharing
PREREQUISITES
Students should be thoroughly familiar with the DB2 for z/OS mainframe environment, ideally with production experience with DB2 for z/OS Version 7 or a subsequent release.
